Workshop

I have been asked by the Hearts n Hands Quilt Guild of O'Fallon, Illinois to give a lecture and workshop in June this year.  The lecture will be Miniature Quilt Making Tips.  In the workshop we will be making one of these quilts:
A kit will be supplied to make one miniature quilt. Each kit will provide some options - notice that the quilts are not identical.  The quilt on the left has one print per block - the spools are each made of one print only.  The quilt on the right has solid centers and a matching print.  Both quilts have a narrow inner border and a wider outer border.  The student will have a choice of a solid inner border that blends with the print outer border or a solid border that contrasts with the outer print border.  All borders are mitered.  The quilt on the left is hand quilted and the quilt on the right is tied with embroidery floss in the centers and hand quilted.  The kits will have everything needed to make one quilt.  All pieces are pre-marked with the cutting and sewing lines.  (This includes the borders.  The angles are clearly marked.)  Pre-marking makes this project very easy for the student.  If you have ever considered trying your hand at making a miniature, it won't get any easier than this project.  Because each kit allows the quilter to make choices, each quilt will be unique to its maker.  Students will be required to bring Fiskars Micro-Tip 5" long Scissors:
and a spool of Gutermann 50 wt. cotton thread in a cream color (no. 1105 is a good choice) and their favorite thimble. Since this is a hand pieced quilt, class will begin with a practice four patch block or two to introduce everyone to the basics.  The practice blocks are marked with the sewing line with actual size stitching marks to allow the student to get comfortable with the stitching.
Note:  when the kits are finished, I will post more photos.
(The quilts above are shown laying in the bottom of a basket for the photo.)
